Manzanillo, Colima. Mexico

    Manzanillo is located approximately 150 miles south of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Colima. It is a nice place to vacation during the Summer. It is not famous like Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta. In recent years, Manzanillo has been considered one of the most important beaches of Mexico for their fishing tournaments (Sailfish), nice beaches and huge hotels like Las Hadas, Maeva, Playa Sol, etc.

    Manzanillo was settled in the year 1522 during the Spanish Conquest. It has been an important seaport since the Spanish came to Mexico. Now in days, the port is popular for it tourism and the Mexican Navy. Moreover, it serves as the primary port for shipping activity out of Guadalajara and is the doorway for shipping to the Orient.

    The name "Manzanillo" comes from the camomile, or manzanillo tree which grew in abundance where the port now stands. Manzanillo is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World.
